What is the project
We Save Food?
923 million tonnes of food being wasted each year would fill 23 million 40-tonne trucks. Bumper-to-bumper, it's enough to circle the Earth seven times
While food loss happens mainly at the production stage due to insufficient skills, natural disasters, lack of proper infrastructure and poor practices, food waste occurs when edible food is intentionally discarded by consumers after they fail to plan their meals properly and store food till it spoils or goes past the expiry date. At times, food waste can also happen due to oversupply in markets. Retailers also tend to reject a lot of food because it doesn't conform to their quality and consumer standards.
Food waste that ends up in landfills produces large amount of methane – a more powerful greenhouse gas than CO2. Excessive amounts of greenhouse gases such as methane and CO2 absorb infrared radiation and heat up the earth's atmosphere, causing global warming and climate change.
We Save Food project brings people and companies together, the ones who are worried about our future, the future of the planet. Those who strive with the conscious consumption of resources, including food. And together we want to be better.
We are launching a unique online platform that allows people to exchange food, and businesses to sell food which is still good but close to expiry
This platform is for those who:
